An odd relationship

July 18, 2017 by Anna

We’ve seen Foxie put her dolls in precarious places, just so she could rescue them. We’ve also seen her hug and groom them lovingly. There are moments in the day when she throws them up and catches them, or hits them with tools. There are also moments like this..

Am I a bad person, I laughed at the “different” way Foxie plays with her dolls!

My favorite is when Foxie stood on her doll and spun around lol.

So is any interpretation of her behavior available? Or necessary? I’m always curious about such things.

While we can’t really know for sure, we see this as a sort of rough play.

In the wild (and in captivity), animals will try to nudge a dead family member to see if it is sleeping, perhaps growing in frustration or sadness if it doesn’t awake. Could this be somewhere in Foxie’s behavior when she is violent with them, as opposed to playfulness like holding the doll in the air above her when lying down, or hugging the doll lovingly?

I would guess that this is not her motivation. While she shows her maternal side with the dolls, I am pretty confident she also knows that they aren’t real living things (just as I did when I was a kid and played with dolls).

She is probably frustrated that they are not alive. Probably wishing they were, I’m sure she knows the difference
