The Gift That Keeps On Giving

February 9, 2017 by Elizabeth

It’s hard to predict how the chimpanzees will interact with the enrichment we offer each day. For Jamie, the absolute highlight of this week has been the new sand table featured in Tuesday’s blog post. Jamie continues to be thoroughly captivated by it. Yesterday we added some buckets of soapy water to the mix.

Given her smarts, how wonderful to find something that kept Jamie interested for two days so far. Maybe even longer….? I think she likes the height of the sand box. She can sit and relax and surround herself with things to do.

They continue to amaze me! You can see how she is thinking it over.

How wonderful that Jamie enjoys her sandbox table so much, a few days of fun so far! I know you have had sandboxes before, has this always been a favorite enrichment activity for Jamie or is this interest new? Not that it matters, I am just thrilled to see her enjoying her smart little self.

And while I am discussing enrichment, thank you for your daily blog posts. They are my favorite enrichment activity each day!???? Your posts always lift my spirits and brighten my day.

Hi Kathleen! We don’t put out sand too often, just because we don’t have access to “fresh” sand often. But Jamie’s been enjoying it so much this week that we added some to our Amazon wishlist!

Here’s a blog post from a couple of years ago featuring the chimps checking out some Florida beach sand sent by a supporter. 🙂 https://chimpsnw.org/2014/01/zen-sand-garden/

Yes! Thank you Elizabeth, I remember this post vividly! I am going to Amazon now to buy you some more sand!

Can I have some Florida sand? 🙂 🙂

I don’t know what I’d do with myself every morning. I come into work, grab a coffee, and check out the blog. Sometimes I don’t get my coffee until AFTER I’ve seen the blog! And I need coffee.

Cheers and thanks and hugs to all.
