For the love of boots

February 24, 2017 by J.B.

Volunteers Stephanie and Patti brought Jamie a western wear catalogue today. It’s always amazing to watch her flip through the magazine and linger over the pages with her favorite boots.

Still laughing about Jamie looking through western wear catalogs to check out the boots! And I also enjoyed seeing her walking in a boot–not sure I’ve seen her do that before and I think she looked fabulous in it! You’ve just gotta love Jamie. I know I do.

She is so loveable, boots and all! How did you first realize she had this love of boots?

She got excited when a visitor came wearing boots. So then we got her a pair. Later, she started to develop a routine of asking us to wear them too: https://chimpsnw.org/2013/03/the-things-we-do/

Wow! when I received your note that Jamie loved the my old red cowboy boots I never expected to see this! I think she may love them as much as I did! So glad they bring her happiness!

I saw a video or a photo, or read about, a chimpanzee in a lab who had a thing for boots. The caregiver — who was someone who later left and wrote about the lab conditions — said that a chimp insisted on touching her rubber boots when she came to the cage. For all the world I wish I could remember where I saw it, so I could pass it along. Perhaps it will come to me but I’m not holding my breath.
