Carrying stuff

February 1, 2017 by Anna

Since the chimpanzees don’t generally use backpacks or wear clothing with pockets, they can be pretty creative with how they choose to gather and carry items around.

Chimpanzees rely a lot on their mouths…
Negra:

Foxie:

Jamie:

But sometimes their mouths are full and they still need to carry more..
Jody:

Missy:

Missy carry her stash

And sometimes their mouths are full and their arms are busy climbing, so they might rely on their feet..
Jamie:

Chimpanzee mothers carry their babies on their backs…

Foxie demonstrates with a doll:

Last but not least, a little live action carrying…

What a wonderful post. Very efficient chimps they are. Especially Jody! Why make 5 trips when you can do it all in one? Reminds me of my mother “don’t go upstairs unless you take something with you”… 🙂

They are so resourceful – and cute – love Jamie’s feet holding onto those socks. Thank you for the wonderful pictures.
