Around the sanctuary, Jamie is known for her amazing tool using abilities. With a long tool and flick of her wrist, she can get just about anything she wants that happens to be lying on the other side of the caging. Burrito on the other hand, can be a bit too blustery for such business. However, he might be willing to give tool use a little try, if eating peanut butter is the end goal.
We didn’t even get to see if he got it! 🙁
I’m with Burrito! Raspberries to you! Is this torture or enrichment?! : ) So happy he finally got to enjoy his peanut butter, what a treat. A few silly questions, when you hand out the enrichment do you place the tool next to the bucket on the opposite side of his caging, meaning Burrito would have to first try to access the tool in order to get to the peanut butter in the bucket (2 puzzles in 1 so to speak)? Or do you hand him the tool. Or does he have to go find a tool all on his own?! And do you set up the buckets and tools for each chimp in different locations so they are all doing the same fun thing at the same time? And, does one of the quicker chimps (Jamie) figure their bucket out and then sneak over to get peanut butter out of the other buckets?! You gotta love Mr. B!
We give them the tool right away. Jamie will make and find tools often, but we provide them directly with the tools they need for evening puzzles. We spread the puzzles out as much as possible, but Jamie has a way of controlling most of the action ; )
How cute is that!
