Foxie's face in watermelon

Happy Birthday, Foxie!

August 8, 2014 by J.B.

It’s hard to believe, but Foxie turned 38 today. Though she may have grown another year older, she showed that she has no plans to start acting her age any time soon. As soon as we walked in the door in the morning, she began spinning and pirouetting and chasing us from one part of the building to another while passing her troll dolls back and forth.

To celebrate her big day, we served all of Foxie’s favorite foods (fruit, fruit, and more fruit!) and gave her a few dozen new troll and Dora the Explorer dolls.  The chimps really enjoyed the birthday party – we tried to capture the look of sheer joy on their faces, but they would not stop inhaling watermelon long enough to be photographed.

Luckily we got some video of the party as well:

Many thanks to all who have donated in honor of Foxie’s birthday! Here’s to many more birthdays to come!

all day at work today I was wondering how Foxie’s birthday was going…. it is so good to see her happy…. did she know that the special day was in her honor?

Hi Lorraine – I honestly don’t think that the chimps know that their birthday parties are held just for them, since everyone gets to celebrate, but Foxie certainly knew that Friday was a special day once she saw all those new trolls.

If Foxie enjoyed her birthday half as much as I enjoyed the watermelon photos and her birthday video I guess she had a superior celebration.

And what did she do when she saw all those dolls!?!

Hi Kathleen – While we were shooting the video, Foxie was too occupied by the watermelon forage to check out all of her new dolls. But before the party, I showed her all the dolls she would be getting and she jumped up and down with excitement and wanted me to pull them out one by one so she could see them all. After the watermelon was gone, Foxie picked her favorite of the bunch, which happened to be a tall troll doll, and she has been carrying it ever since.

Ha, haaa! Thanks J.B.! I can see Foxie now, jumping up and down for her dolls. Pulling all those dolls out one by one must have taken forever! ; )

And thanks for confirming that it was Jamie grabbing the watermelon bowl. She is so smart and observant, of course she grabbed the fruit bowl! Amazing, she hardly had time to see it and yet she snatched it up so fast.

I could replay that little toe rub all day long.

I love how everyone came out and walked toward the platform or other prize, and in true Missy fashion, she swings in!

Sorry, I have to ask, who is it that comes out the door (#3, I know Negra is #1!) and grabs the watermelon fruit bowl sitting to the right of the door? I am guessing Jamie but they are moving so fast all I can ID is Neggie and Missy! SO funny. Plus I love hearing all the food squeaks and grunts of excitement and then as soon as they dig into the food — total quite with munching, slurping and chewing. And my Negra, looking so cosmopolitan sipping her party cocktail!

What is it about chimps happily eating that brings me such joy! They are so sweet.

You are correct – that is Jamie! You are getting good at your chimp ID. They come out the door in the following order: Negra, Foxie, Jamie, Burrito, Jody, Annie and Missy.

Awe Happy belated Birthday Foxie. I adore Foxie. I am so happy they are there . They have such a great life with such great people! Godspeed!!!!! (:(]) and RIP Robin Williams who touched Koko’s heart/ Koko the Gorilla. She is really sad about his passing. Robin Williams is considered the ambassador for great ape conservation. Anyways, They were hooting with excitement because it was party time ! yay! Foxie rox!
