the best rest

July 27, 2013 by Diana

I do not jest

Jody loves to nest

Jody nesting in playroom

For chimpanzees a nest is a bed

A place to put a heavy head

It’s a joy everyday to create a spot to lay

with blankets,

paper,

or hay

jody lay in straw

Sanctuary for Jody is the best rest

jody yawning

It’s a literal nest fest

Oh how thrilling to see them happy. When I think of anybody mistreating this wonderful animal,I
just can’t bear it. We must put an end to killing in Africa, just for a horn to leave a dead animal and a weeping baby. Same with orangutans, the great apes, palm oil is now their enemy.

    We must help !

I love to watch Jody nest. She enjoys the process of making a nest as much as she enjoys the comfort of her nests. It is hard to know that she was denied this simple pleasure of making and enjoying a place to rest for so many years.

Diana, thank you for the poem and giving us a in depth look at Jody and her love of making and resting in her nests.

That first video had me laughing. Even though I know how many behaviors we share with our ape cousins, it always amazes me to see how human like some of their activities are. They way she would lay back and check how it felt, rearrange a few blankets, the careful unfolding of another before adding… it’s delightful!!!!

I agree – it’s one of my favorite videos of Jody – it’s so easy to relate to how she is testing out and making adjustments to the nest.

Thank you for sharing. I love all the photos of Jody, especially the 5th photo, very sweet. The last photo is pretty funny. I really loved the first video of Jody, as she arranges all the blankets to her satisfaction, as she lays on her back spread eagle. She is a sweet young lady, and a pretty little lady. 🙂

I wonder if I infringed on any Suess-style rhyming couplet copyright issues…

It’s always a joy to view a video of Jody.. I love to see her nesting.. Its a very clear indicater that she is comfotatble.. I think it’s time for me to send another parcel filled with balnkets , and addressed to Jody and Negra,, two ladies who take nest building very seriously.
