Cinco de Mayo

May 5, 2013 by Elizabeth

Volunteer caregiver Stephanie throws the best parties for the chimpanzees, and today was no different. She showed up for her volunteer shift this morning with her arms full of pinatas (nine of them!), plastic margarita glasses, and lots of fresh produce for a Cinco de Mayo party. We filled the margarita glasses with fruit smoothie and set them around the greenhouse. We decorated Young’s Hill with the pinatas (each filled with a few nuts and berries) and scattered a fruit salad forage.

We brought our cameras to the Out of the Box auction last night, and they didn’t make it back to the chimp house in time for the party, so we snapped a few photos with Debbie’s phone.

Jody helped herself to a “margarita”:

We weren’t able to get many good photos of the chimps on Young’s Hill since we didn’t have our telephoto lens, but I love that these two photos, taken just after we opened the door to the hill, show all seven chimpanzees.

Thanks again to Steph for bringing the party to CSNW today!

Great job Stephanie! I had no idea that Jody was so small. Are Jody and Foxie the smallest of the ladies?

The 4th photo is a little misleading. I’m not sure why Jody looks so small there – must be the angle. Jody is actually one of the larger females. Foxie and Missy are the smallest.

Yes, the photo really caught me off guard. She almost looks anorexic. That would be impossible. You guys take such excellent care of the CE7!

I’m thinking that I want to be a CleElum Chimp!! The food arrangements at all the parties are terrific! Nothing could make up for their lives all those years and for the fact that they are not free, but you guys sure to come close to accomplishing that!

In terms of the size of the chimps, would you say Jamie is the biggest? It looks like it’s between her and Negra.
