It’s my sad duty to share that the chimps (and humans) of CSNW lost a very dear and devoted friend earlier this month. Marcia Douthwaite touched us all with her sweet blog comments, notes, and sponsored days for the chimps (like one in memory of her dear son, and others here and here). I know that it was a lifelong dream fulfilled when she had the special opportunity a few years ago to come out to the sanctuary. I so treasured the opportunity to meet her as well. Before she passed, she generously shared her primate-related books with us, so we created a small lending library in our office in her honor.
I’m honored to help Marcia’s memory live on through this lovely library, and through our wonderful memories of her love for chimps and other primates everywhere.

Oh this is indeed very sad. I used to see and enjoy Marcia’s posts here and on the Friends of Bonobo’s site too. I could tell the depth of her love and fascination with our cousins with every post. I am terribly sorry the world of primates both captive and wild, has lost such a staunch supporter. My condolences to her family and friends also.

I just saw this and although I didn’t know her personally, I feel sad. I always enjoyed what she wrote and knew she was a kindred spirit and champion for primates, as we all are here. My condolences to her family…she must have been a wonderful person!
