How sleepy is Negra?

February 22, 2013 by J.B.

Due to their size, Negra’s lips are strongly influenced by the earth’s gravitational forces. As the day wears on, it gets harder and harder for Negra to resist their slow, inevitable descent.

No matter what stage….. She and her lips are wonderful.

Awe! She is such a sweet hairy baby! Great pictures showing the progression of her lip. While I love all the pictures. I have to say the one of her sleeping is my favorite. Maybe this is because I’m a grandma and have always loved to watch my babies sleep. God Bless everyone at the sanctuary, hairy babies included! <3

I love that she has to prop them up on her arm for a bit. Those things are so heavy!
And now the Queen shall retire for the evening to get her beauty sleep.

This was so sweet and Funny!! Yes, the Queen needs her beauty sleep!! She is such a love! Due to her age, etc. do the other chimps, including Jamie, defer to her? She seems to be so wise and dignified and so beautiful! I think she’s my favorite…but then again…they’re all my favorites! 🙂

Yes, they often defer to her. I think it has more to do with her personality than her age, as she is only a year older than the least dominant chimp in the group (Annie). The analogy that we often use is that Jamie is the Prime Minister and Negra is the Queen. The Queen is universally respected but the Prime Minister actually holds the power.

And the lips win! She put up a good struggle though. Fun article. 🙂

Ha! That’s a perfect analogy, J.B. Thanks! She very much is quite queenly and yes, Jamie the PM…although I’m sure sometimes you may think of her more as a dictator…Jamie I mean! 🙂
