Lounging with trolls

April 27, 2012 by Debbie

Nothing like some sunshine and a handful of trolls to make you just want to lay back and relax.

I just LOVE Foxie too! Silly girl with her Trolls 🙂 Was Foxie ever a Mama?

Teri – biologically, Foxie was a mom, yes. But socially not really, since her 5 babies were taken away from within a few days after birth. One of Foxie’s offspring, her daughter Angie, lives at Save the Chimps.

Debbie, Why were all of her babies taken away? Why would they breed her in the first place??

In many cases, “breeders” were used to do just that – breed and give birth, and repeat. They take the infants to use them in research once they are big enough, and until then they are housed in nurseries. If mothers were to keep their babies with them, they would naturally nurse and would not be able to start cycling again until their baby was weaned. So a lot of times in order for the mothers to start cycling again they take the babies away. Thankfully there is a breeding moratorium in federally owned labs, however that doesn’t apply to private ownership so breeding does still occur.

Foxie is such a super troll mama! I love her so much. I love the ‘lone leg’ in picture #1….

Great eye! I hadn’t even noticed that before. Hilarious.
