Negra under blanket in front room

Napping

February 11, 2012 by Diana

Negra is the queen of many things, including getting cozy. Here she is snuggled up on one of the benches high up in a front room.

She actually got around quite a bit today – mostly moving from one napping place to another. In this photo Negra is in front of a window on the catwalk of the playroom – one of her favorite spots. I got up on a ladder to take the photo:

Jamie used the afternoon to siesta in the greenhouse. I climbed a ladder to get the photo below too. In their natural habitats, chimpanzees almost always sleep in the trees high off the ground. Most chimpanzees in captivity also prefer to be up high when they sleep.

I love the bits of lighter skin on Jamie’s eyelids in this photo:

How sweet…. do they startel easily, when their so relaxed? Or are they soooo comfortable and unafraid that they can just relax and sleep without any fears? Thanks so much for sharing – I love ’em all.

I can’t say that I’ve seen any of the Cle Elum Seven chimpanzees startle when awakened. I think chimps are fairly light sleepers. I think they are now confident that they have no reason to be afraid of what might happen at the sanctuary.

What beautiful ladies. Jamie is so active I don’t think I’ve ever noticed the lighter color on her eyelids. Wow! She does nap with both eyes shut! Thanks Diana.

I hope they feel as peaceful as they look!

They look so comfortable and cozy covered with their blankets on a cold winter’s day–such bliss. Thanks, Diana.

Super sweet. They are definitely inspirational in the cozy-nest-building and napping departments. Love these, Diana, and the close up of Jamie…wow…..thanks for scaling the heights to get these. 😉

Napping is a fine art, I am glad they have somewhere safe to practice. :). Thanks for the pics, they are lovely!

ditto, ditto, ditto…such sweet napping faces! Although knowing Jamie’s sometimes mischevious, personality…it’s a little like gazing at some children when they’re sleeping and you think….awwe, they look so sweet….when they’re sleeping! 🙂
Thanks for these photos, Diana and climbing high to get them!

I am very impressed with the close up of Jamie. I’ve never had the good fortune to see such an up-close and personal look at a chimpanzee. How fascinating, to see the wrinkled nose (probably the most different of the features between a chimp and human face). I especially loved her smile though..a peaceful nap with a smile on her…that simple little thing is a tribute to the wonderful environment all of you have provided for these amazing creatures.
