Jody is often the first to go out onto the hill when we open it up these days. She may not go out right away, but once she builds up the initiative, she goes! And often Foxie is right there with her. Yesterday, Jody waited a long time before going out but then she all the sudden came charging into the greenhouse from the playroom and walked right out there, with Annie and Foxie right behind her.
But, later Foxie took “following Jody” to a whole new level:
And when Jody decided it was time to go back inside…
All the pictures are great but the one of Annie is especially wonderful!!!
Does the snow bother their feet at all?
I believe their skin is thicker than ours, but I imagine it is still cold!
There is nothing better than watching this group RUN….. For some the first time in their lives and for others it’s been decades. Run, Run, RUN………
wow, that is a gorgeous pic of Annie running… loved the other pics too 🙂
Look at those girls go!!! Wonderful photos, Jackie–so good to see them having sooo much fun together.
Is it just my imagination or is Foxie getting a lot grayer lately? Great photos Jackie. Thanks.
I noticed that she looked grayer in that photo of her, but I think it’s just the way to photo turned out. Gray isn’t a sign of old age in chimps like it is in humans- it’s more of a genetic trait.
Thank you Jackie. I did not know it wasn’t a sign of old age. That is good to know. 🙂
Oops! Looks like I misspoke. Chimpanzees do get gray hair with age, however, some chimps have gray or silvery hair at a young age due to genetics.
Will they start putting on more coat now that they are going out into the winter elements? Foxie’s coat seems pretty sparse for the cold temps, but maybe it’s not as cold there as it looks!
Chimps have hair like humans, so the thickness does not fluctuate with the seasons. Foxie’s hair does seem pretty sparse in that photo, which could be due to a number of things. Her hair is pilo erect (standing on end), and she may have overgroomed her arm, making it more sparse. (Believe me, it is as cold as it looks!!! 🙂
Great shot of Annie in action! That’s a calendar or card (or shirt) photo for sure!
Annie the ballerina!
