Besties on the hill

November 30, 2011 by Jackie

I have been completely amazed at how much time the chimps have been spending on the hill these days! The other day it was cold, cold, cold. But Annie, Missy, Jody, Foxie, and Jamie (or the “Young’s Hill superstar five”) spent almost 2 hours out there! Missy and Annie ran around playing chase and wrestling with one another the whole time. Jody, Jamie, and Foxie jumped in the games at various times, but Annie and Missy didn’t stop… maybe because they are best friends, or maybe it was just a great way to stay warm! Either way, they seemed to be having a blast!

The games rapidly alternated between Annie chasing Missy, and Missy chasing Annie

As the chaser, Missy’s technique to slow Annie down was to grab at her feet

Missy chased and wrestled with Annie on this climbing structure for a long time. They went ’round and ’round and ’round until Annie was able to escape onto the nearby rope bridge

Since Jamie likes to dress up anyway, does she — or any other of the chimps — put on clothes before they go out — sweaters, hats, etc.? From the photos it would seem not.

Come to think of it, it seems that there have been fewer photos of them dressing up. Are they dressing up less or hsve you just been photographing them doing other things?

I have seen Jamie put on a hat before running out onto the hill, however, all of the chimps are definitely showing less interest in wearing clothes these days.

I am so happy to hear that so many of them are getting outside. It is interesting that the cold doesn’t bother them, but if it doesn’t then it doesn’t. Also glad they are showing less interest in clothes, go naked or go home! 🙂 Love the updates, thanks so much.

I would like to know if the neighboring horses have been back around to wonder at the chimps?

Our neighbor rotates where he puts his horses and I haven’t seen them in the spot closest to Young’s Hill in a while. But every time they are there when the chimps have the hill, the horses stare and definitely seem perplexed and confused. 🙂

The last picture is priceless (all of them are actually!). 2 best friends with their hiney’s up in the air!! That got a huge smile and BIG laugh out loud from me!!

I love seeing them chasing, playing, wrestling outside.

The 2 hiney’s get today’s award for sure!

    Awesone shots Jackie!!!

It is so good to see them becoming comfortable enought on the hill to be playing. This has been a life changing event for them and has taking a little time to get use too. I for one can’t wait until next summer when the weather is better and they will have more time on the hill to play and lay in the sun.

Exactly, Denice! SO happy to see Annie able to overcome all that anxiety of watching her bestie from afar and them now having so much fun out there together. And Foxie! Yay!! Brave chimpanzee ladies. As always, utterly makes my heart happy to see them all having such a great time. xx

What fabulous photos that show the life changing event opening Young’s Hill has been! I am so happy for the seven that they have this choice added to their lives. Don and Karen Young must be so happy to see these wonderful outside action photos!

Jackie, love the photos, thank you. Looks like you have had some sun even though it is cold. So glad they are enjoying their hill. What are Negra and Burrito doing in the meantime? Hope they will brave it again for short periods.

Negra spends much of her time hanging out in her favorite spot in the playroom, usually lounging in a giant nest, and Burrito has been spending his time in the greenhouse while the other ladies peruse the hill. He runs out every once in a while to grab some snow, but I think it is just too cold for Burrito and Negra’s tastes. Like Denice mentioned above, we are all looking forward to warmer weather so the chimps can really spend some quality time out there- maybe even build a nest or two!!
