As Diana mentioned in a blog post from earlier, Jamie and I share a birthday today! I can’t think of a better way to spend my Hallo-birthday than by throwing a party for Jamie and the rest of the Cle Elum Seven!
We have a lot of folks to thank for making today’s party a huge success. Robbi & Dick Brown and Tamela donated a lot of fun new toys and decorations, and volunteers Steph and Katelyn brought some new things with them today as well. We also want to thank Deborah G., Barbara B., Jessica K., Tamela, and Jeani G. for donating towards Jamie’s big celebration today! And of course we can’t forget all of Jamie’s Chimpanzee Pals: Cherie Breaux & Robert Bochnik; Kathy Carlson; Candy Crannell; GFWC Cascade Woman’s Club; Debbie Kray; Pam Lehnert & Marc Warner; KC McCarthy; Jackie Mulanax & Brad McNeice; Debra Redwine; Pam Reid; Kathleen Roan; Tony Silvia; Nicole Sturn; and Jackson Walkden-Brown.
Steph and Katelyn brought with them a giant pumpkin, with Jamie’s named carved in it (and the “J” was made into a boot!) The following photos are of the Great Pumpkin (as I’ve decided to call it).

Jody was the first to dig in:
Negra joined in:
Missy asking Jody if she can share, Jody giving her a reassuring kiss:

At one point Burrito was working on the pumpkin all by himself:
So much happened today that I’m pretty sure there will be more Hallo-birthday photos and videos posted tomorrow!
Pumpkin…great fiber!!
That’s it Burrito, dive in head first! LOL
I was going awwwwwww after each pic but the last one of Burrito gets the biggest awwwwwwwww 🙂
Happy B-day Debbie & Jamie and thx to everyone who helped make the day so special!!
The picture of Mr. B’s head in the pumpkin is priceless!! New computer wallpaper background for sure!!
I can’t tell you how much I love these pictures. It just makes me so happy.
What wonderful photos—they certainly enjoyed themselves!!! Happy Birthday Debbie and Jamie!!
This is probably a silly question, but is there anything they don’t like to eat?
Hi Jen.
All the chimps have likes and dislikes when it comes to food but I have to say that Zucchini is NOT eaten by any of the “7”. We have tried baking, frying and raw but they don’t like it. The only why is to hide it in baked goods or in something like spaghetti sauce. They also do not like hot peppers.
All of the chimps have things that are their favorite and things that they could not care less about. And sometimes, when things are in comparison, they definitely have preferences. For instance, Negra likes bananas but if it’s between a banana and peanuts, she will completely reject the banana! Foxie is not a huge fan of very many greens, but that’s starting to change. She has taken lettuce from me every time I’ve served it. She still say no to other greens like kale, and also green onions. Burrito likes anything. Jody, Missy, and Annie are all pretty easy to please, although they occasionally will opt out of some foods. Jamie is usually easy to please although she also is like Negra in her comparable tastes—if there’s pears and oranges around, peanuts are of no interest to her.
Do they ever surprise you in their preferences? Isn’t it great that we’re talking about their choices when they were allowed to make none for so long.
As a group, they also don’t like mushrooms, though I’ve known other chimpanzees who like them. I’ve also noticed that they reject garlic and most raw herbs (but they will eat them cooked in other things). And Annie is allergic to mangoes, so we don’t serve them even though the chimps like them. Foxie changing preferences have surprised me. Even though zucchini is not a favorite and Foxie doesn’t like many vegetables, there was a yellow squash that grew spontaneously in the garden last year that she loved.
MOre pictures to make me smile! If I ever have a bad day, I come here and look at these pictures and I feel better. Thanks so much for sharing these with all of us, it means the world some days. <3
I swear they’re starting to learn to smile for the camera. I have to say my favorite pic is of Missy and Jody sharing a friendly kiss over the pumpkin but the one of Burrito’s silly grin over the pumpkin, and the head first dive inside, is the best laugh out loud moment I’ve had since I saw the rubber bloody hand someone placed peeking out from our photocopier this morning!
i adore these pictures , Jamie,s eyes look so happy and bright in the first one , she knows for sure its her special day , and Mr B looks mighty pleased with himself with the pumpkin , hope Jamie and Debbie both had the happiest of days , thank you to everyone for once again pulling put all the stops and giving the chimpsters a special day xxx
That kiss is so sweet!
Way to go Mr B. Dive in you cutie! 🙂
