Here at CSNW, we’re always looking for reasons to party. Volunteers Jeani and Julie thought it would be fun to throw a (belated) Chinese New Year party for the chimpanzees, so they went shopping for food and decorations, and then prepared a Chinese feast. The puffed rice bowls seemed to be a universal hit — you’ll see Annie and Negra enjoying them in the video below.

Julie and I had so much fun getting everything ready for the seven. The peppermint bubble tea was also a big hit! Yes, we found the tapioca pearls and put them in their tea. What is a Chinese New Year without bubble tea. Then the chimps got to have red envelopes stuffed with their night time goodies for their night bags. We also had paper lanterns and origami swans and pagodas made by the kids at the extended day at Thoreau Elementary School, who follow the chimps on line. It was a fun day and a great way to celebrate another New Year in the lives of the 7. When we left it was quiet and peaceful with the chimps relaxing in different areas. I can’t wait for the next party!

I forgot to tell you that plate Jody was holding was our version of bean cakes. (no sugar but lots of veggies)

Thank you Jeani and Julie. I love to watch the 7 when they have a party. I especially love the excited grunts and squeaks. Negra stuffing two bowls in her mouth gave me quite a chuckle. It’s so good to see them all having fun!
