Great way to start the day

September 25, 2010 by J.B.

One of the things that we stress to our staff and volunteers is that our attitudes have a significant effect on the chimps. We all know from personal experience with friends, family, and coworkers that moods can be contagious, so we try to shake off whatever is bothering us before we go into the chimp house. The last thing the chimps need is for us to bring them down!

It works the other way as well – the chimps can really influence how we feel about our “day at the office”. Some chimps are particularly influential. If Jamie is in a bad mood, we’re in for a rough day, to say the least. But if she’s happy, we’re happy.

For me, there is one individual in particular that has the ability to brighten my morning no matter what side of the bed I wake up on. This morning, as I opened the door to greet the chimps, Foxie was waiting, troll in hand, to launch into a full-on game of “pass the troll” with some flips and spins thrown in. Not a bad way to start the day.

What a pleasure to watch. I had the honor of meeting Foxie and she is really remarkable and was so hospitable for lack of a better word allowing me in her home so to speak. It is amazing at all that she has been through because of humans that she now has blossomed into this funloving, goofy, warm and loving chimp. Credit to CSNW that they were and are able to provide her and all the others a home where all of them can be safe and be themselves. It is sad to think what her children missed not having her as a mother because I’m sure she would have been a mom that every other chimp wished was theirs, can you imagine what a blast it would be to have Foxie as your mom?

What a great way to start a Saturday! I’m sure she tied her arms into at least 115 different knots and what a happy, happy playface! What a joy for all of us to watch!!

Oh JB and Foxie thank you for a wonderful start of the day! It is such a pleasure to watch you Foxie with all your spinning and laughing with your trolls. And how easily you share them now. (As long as we are willing to give them back when asked!) Thanks for being the goof you are. I love you, Foxie.

I wish I had that much energy first thing in the morning. Foxie really brightens the day up with all her acrobatic moves, but through all that still remembers at the end, I only let you have my troll to hold JB not for keeps – Thank You.

What an agile girl! J.B., I am green with envy. I would give just about anything if I could start my day like that. Foxie girl you are one special chimp. I love seeing the chimps so happy and carefree. This video is the epitome of what “sanctuary” is all about. Thanks, J.B. you made my day!
