Missy’s Birthday

August 23, 2010 by Jackie

Today we celebrated Missy’s 35th Birthday. What a great day! We set the party up first thing this morning and scattered tons of gift bags of goodies from Dick and Robbi, and set up a forage of oranges, peaches, carrots, frozen cantaloupe, and “night bags” (or “breakfast bags”, if you will) of sunflower seeds, which were hidden inside the gift bags. The chimps loved the party and were in excellent moods for the duration of the day!

If you are friends with Missy or any of the Cle Elum Seven chimps on Facebook, you might have seen posts this morning about another birthday fundraiser. It’s not too late to participate- send us a $35 donation and I’ll email a special gift to you and a friend (be sure to put your friend’s email in the gift note section of the donation form). She’s celebrating with her friends, why don’t you celebrate with a friend as well?!

Leave it to Missy to dress up those plain, white socks with pretty pink crepe’ paper!! The birthday girl has to look pretty on her birthday!

Another stellar party for these very lucky chimps. Not surprised though. Your chimp parties are “oh, so much better” than my people parties!! 🙂

    Thank you Jackie!!

Missy: A.K.A. Missy Miss, Little Miss, Miss Missy

I love how Missy loves green onions, I love how she loves to play, I love how she will play with each of the others in a different way, I love that she will be ever so gentel with Negra when playing, I love that she loves to grab feet or even bit feet to start a play session. I love that she will even play with Mr. B. I love how she loves to put socks on her feet. I love how she wears human clothes. I love to see her siloute in the door to the outdoor area, she loves to stand in the doorway and look out. I love how sometimes she will not come in for breakfast. I love how she will sit on the stairs in full view of the staff with her back to them and refuse to move, like she is saying ” I know what you want me to do and I’m NOT going to do it. I love that after the staff have tried to get her to come in and have given up and closed the doors Missy will take full advantage of having the play room all to herself. She will display and run and make a fuss, she will pant hoot and get everybody else excited. I love that sometimes she talks Annie into staying out for a meal and they will play and chase eachother. I love how when serving a meal to Missy she likes to have her back towards a wall so that she is at a right angle to the caging where you are serving so that she has to use the side of her mouth to take what is being served. I love how Missy after each bite being served has to go to the door to the outside area and stand upright to make sure everything is OK or making sure she is not missing anything. I love that after a year and a half (+) of volunteering Missy has just now decided to play with me. She actually played chase with me and has let me groom her (with a stick through the caging). Missy has even let me give her a knuckle rub. I have to admit this was one of the best days at the sanctuary when Missy finally gave up and decided I was not going anywhere and wanted to play with me. Missy is such a playfull person and I love that about her…………. I love Missy

It looked like another beautiful day, in Cle Elum, for a Missy birthday party. The pictures and video were great! I couldn’t get over that photo of Negra, to me, she just keeps getting more youthful looking.

I just love Missy, she’s playful, she can entertain herself and she seems very, very happy. Isn’t it nice to know that a pair of socks bring joy to this special chimpanzee. Happy Birthday, Missy!

I’ve heard of girls stuffing their bras with paper….but never their socks.

Thanks, Marie! They do get excited when they see party preparation, especially when they see the food go out! I would bet the food grunts and squeaks can be heard for miles sometimes!
