You’ve helped us raise a total of $51,671 for our 2nd Anniversary Fundraising. With less than three days to go until the anniversary of the chimpanzees arrival to sanctuary, we’ve well surpassed our original ultimate goal of $45,000. This means we will replace a total of seven caged windows with chimp-proof glass picture windows, four of those due directly to this fundraising drive! Thank you and high-fives to everyone!!!!!!!!

I agree with you Theresa, woo hoo!!! Will the windows be replaced one at a time, or one right after the other, or time off after installation? Way to go everybody!

Candy – if all works out, we’ll be able to install a few at a time

W-O-O-H-O-O!!!!! Can’t wait to come celebrate on Sunday!!
Kathleen says
I was just wondering something? Don’t the bars allow the chips to interact better with their keepers, where they can be touched, play, given tasty treats, etc?
Diana says
Hey Kathleen – good question! I have a couple of answers – the first being that caregivers can interact and play with the chimps through the glass windows in new ways, as seen in this video: https://chimpsnw.org/2010/03/window-play/
The second is that we do not really interact with the chimps through the windows that we are replacing. Those on the garden side of the playroom are not easy to get to and difficult to see through from the garden to the playroom, so we don’t use them as areas for giving the chimps treats or playing. And those that we are soon going to replace between the playroom and the outdoor area have caging, a glass window, then plexiglass over that, so we don’t interact there either.
We have lots of other areas in the building for serving food, passing things to the chimps, etc, and we’re keeping a few of the caged windows for ventilation.
The picture windows are a great improvement all around.
