“Oh, Neggie…”

May 21, 2010 by Jackie

Negra’s playfulness with her caregivers was not just a one time deal. It seems she is really coming out of her shell and is starting to loosen up a bit. I can’t even begin to tell you all how happy this makes all of us. To see Negra laugh and play with her caregivers brings us sheer joy!

Chimp laughter……………music to my ears! This play session was so sweet. I laughed out loud in the middle of it when you could just hear her say something like “I’m a bit tired, but give me a second to lay down and then I can still play with
you while I’m laying down!” Great way to start our weekend. Thanks Jackie!!

I think we’ve had a breakthrough, by Jove!!! I don’t think I’ve seen a video of Negra playing tug-of-war, it’s wonderful to see. I’m with you Leslie, thanks Negra for the smile. Maybe it’s because I’m 52, but I had trouble discerning Negra’s laughter between the caregiver.

I’m happy for Negra, but I can’t help but think it’s taken her two years, of being well-looked after and loved, to get to this point. I wish all the labs, that use chimpanzees in biomedical research, could see and feel, the psychological damage they cause their chimps.

I love Negra and I’m along for the journey so I can see what else she’ll reveal to us.

You are excatly right, Candy. Those people who use great apes (or any non-human animal actually) need to really see what harm they do to their victims. It is SO wonderful that Negra got out of there while there was still time for her to recover and to have some joy in her life. CSNW is so wonderful in creating good lives for our chimpanzee friends. Thank you!!

Go ahead, Negra. Let it out. You’ve been beaten down for too long. You’re safe. These people love you. Your chimp family loves you. Laughter is good for the soul. Let it out!

Was Negra trying to kiss the caregiver who was playing with her with the green boa?

It’s so heartwarming to see our Neggie coming out of her shell. It’s taken awhile but it’s finally happening. Just like humans, chimps recover from trauma at their own pace. It’s great to see our old lady playing and laughing again. I love the way she puts her lips through the cage as if blowing a kiss. I think she is! Thank you, Jackie for bringing a big smile to my face and happy tears to my eyes watching Negra enjoying life.

The joy that Negra brought to my heart connects at a soul level. Just one look in her eyes and I’m transported to a place where man and the animal kingdom have a relationship of love and mutual understanding. May she be blessed with joy, beyond measure, for the rest of her days.

I thank the sweet souls who give of their time and love to make Negra’s life a fulfilling one.

    Namaste
