Spring!

April 17, 2010 by Diana

Warm weather has finally arrived. Yesterday J.B. removed one wall of the greenhouse panels.

Negra was ready

Negra spent yesterday and today in her spot enjoying the view

While we enjoyed the view of Negra with the direct sunlight on her face

She also spent some time in her favorite pose, taking a nap

Doesn’t this close up of Negra just compel you to contribute (and tell all of your friends to donate) to the 2nd Anniversary Fundraising to celebrate Negra’s birthday and 2 years in sanctuary?

Thank you to everyone who is working hard to give Negra and all of the Cle Elum Seven this second chance on life at the sanctuary.

J.B., I hope those panels aren’t heavy. Negra was adventurous today and taking a nap without a blanket. It’s been, almost, two years since the “7” arrived at CSNW and I think the pain and suffering they endured has been replaced with kindness and love they receive from their caregivers. All you have to do is look at Negra’s face to see it.

Ah, the annual dance with adjusting the greenhouse. I know it well. 🙂 For me, I finally don’t need to add heat at night (although I close everything up), and in another month or so, the shade cloth goes up to keep things from frying in the summer sun. I wasn’t clever enough to make my panels removeable!

Each change is, I’m sure, enjoyable by the chimps for the weather-appropriate difference it brings. While they’ve loved the winter protection, I’m sure they also love having some fresh air again.

I agree with Candy – Negra’s face reflects a quiet joy that simply wasn’t there when she arrived. What an amazing, loving difference you have all made!!

Our Negra does love the sun. After all her years in the lab I am so grateful she is able to sit with the sun on her face and to nap in a ray of sunshine. I can’t wait until the caging is replaced with the windows. I will keep contributing until she gets the view she deserves. Love you, Neggie!

Ah, what stories Negra could tell us, if only we spoke chimp.

This is so fantastic! Negra looks so content looking out her window and napping lazily in the sun. You are all such special people to be caring for these wonderful beings. I have fallen in love with each and every one of them. I feel happy knowing they are safe and being allowed to be chimps as they always should have. All the best to you at Cle Elum!
