We’ve all been reflecting on how much the chimpanzees have changed over the last year and going through old photos and videos of when they first arrived. Sometimes photos tell the story better than words, so I put together this video.
Happy Birthday Negra and a very happy anniversary to the Cle Elum Seven. I look forward to many more to come!

What a difference a year makes! Thank you for the slideshow, Diana. It really brings home the change in the chimps when love, nutrition, and freedom from testing is given. They all look so much better and most importantly, happy! God Bless you all for all you do!

Between your beautiful pictures and Sarah’s wonderful text the essence of sanctuary spills out. I feel so lucky to have shared some of this past year with everyone, watched 7 amazing transformations and contributed my small part. I too have enjoyed the small moments, Foxie’s first greeting thru the kitchen window, troll in tow. Jamie’s imposing figure peering down on me, Burrito in the loft checking out dinner, Missy and Annie cuddled and grooming on the cat walk, Negra and her blanket and Jody finally greeting me with her kind face.
Happy Anniversary, Happy Birthday Negra and thank you so much for sharing your year with me! Here’s to many happy more happy and healthy years to come!

In particular, I find the picture of Jody when she arrived to be so haunting. And heartbreaking. The things that made such a difference in her appearance after a year – especially what I see in her eyes – are really so simple: fresh air, good food, room to move, respect, attention, kindness.
I know it isn’t simple to provide those things. It took a dream, and a huge personal commitment; it takes the ongoing efforts of many people, and a lot of money. Many folks give/sacrifice so that the CE7 can experience simple dignity and joy in living.
Bless all of you who are there in Cle Elum who are working so hard at providing the CE7 with sanctuary. May angels surround you and keep you, and assist you in your ongoing work.
