Jody with rose

Party day

May 10, 2009 by Elizabeth

Thanks to the generosity of the chimpanzees’ friends and supporters, the chimps have had a wonderful Mother’s Day (and Jody’s birthday!). For the big day, we purchased some of the chimps’ favorite produce — sweet potatoes, parsnips, bananas, corn on the cob, blackberries, greens — and in honor of Jody, we set out fresh straw and tons of cushy blankets for nesting, and pink and yellow roses for smelling and eating (although Missy preferred to nest with them). The weather in Cle Elum today is slightly windy but warm, and the chimps spent a good deal of time outside this morning playing, enjoying their forage, and sunning themselves.

And here are some photos of the birthday girl (with roses, investigating a bucket of soapy water, and in a giant straw nest):

Thanks so much to all of our supporters for making today such a great one for the Cle Elum Seven!

What girl doesn’t love receiving flowers, enjoyed the picture of Jody smelling her rose. Happy birthday Jody! I think Jody would make a great Rose Queen in the next Texas Rose Festival here in Tyler. Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

There are several things I love about this video clip … Burrito hoarding what look to be chunks of sweet potatoes; the fire hose swing woven into the nest; chimps galloping!; happy straw nesting. 🙂 What a nice Mother’s day!

I adore the picture of Jody smelling her rose. So poignant! I enjoy watching the chimps eat too, Burritto with his hands full and the smacking noises of food enjoyed. Love it all. I am thrilled the chimps had a wonderful day. They deserve it!

Oh, it is so wonderful to watch the videos. I wish Jodie and the rest could know how many people out here love them, follow what they’re doing, and wish their life before this had never happened. Happy Birthday Jodie and many, many more in this so peaceful and happy place. Love, Sort-of, “Aunt” Mary

Happy, Happy Birthday Jody! What a beautiful girl you are. Every time I watch any videos with the chimps it just warms my heart to see them so happy & well cared for. Thank you all at the sanctuary for these videos! And those roses-what an adorable photo. Love from Ruth.
