Grooming

April 3, 2009 by J.B.

Missy grooming her foot, sporting her trademark “glasses on the back of the neck” style:

Burrito and Foxie were sleeping next to each other on the catwalk when Negra decided she wanted to be groomed. Burrito was happy to oblige:

I never get tired of watching them take so much delight in the small things in life. In a stabile secure environment they can just “be”, their peaceful relaxed faces (at least now) say it all.

You really do capture some great images JB!!

well said Cindy.. love their faces & profiles.. absolutely gorgeous ..
really dig it when the pictures look like they were taken just a few feet away (go zoom lens!)

They look so content. How can you not love those faces?
    Excellent shots J.B.

Missy has a style all her own, way to go.

Seeing that last photo of Negra was so beautiful. I went back and looked at the June 2008 blogs and photos and was going to say “Negra’s a ghost of her former self.” You know what that’s not true anymore, that chimpanzee from 10 months ago no longer exists. What we now see is a chimpanzee living a life, free of pain, confinement and boredom, and hopefully one day all lab chimps can live a life like the Cle Elum 7.

I am so happy to be back from New Zealand and able to see my chimpanzee friends as often as I want! I did get a chance to checkin on the blog a few times when I was away but it is nice to be able to do it every day now I am home. How precious they are.

Negra and Burrito seem to have a special relationship and I’m so glad they have each other. I wonder if it has any thing to do the “oldest and the youngest” of the group? No matter as long as they now have the freedom to have this special relationship.

Beautiful pix JB. I love the look of intensity and relaxation on their faces. It is a joy to see them in these moments.
    Welcome back Margaret!

I think Missy has seen people wearing sunglasses on top of their head, I do it all the time. Placing sunglasses on her neck is the closest she can get to that same look.
