The chimps had a great party today, complete with Easter baskets and treats courtesy of their wonderful friends and supporters. There were plastic eggs filled with nuts and dried fruit, homemade bagels and muffins, even cornbread peeps! Of course, there were also plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, including eggplant, cucumbers, green onions, and coconuts, which we were able to purchase because of your Easter party donations.
It was rainy and gloomy today, so most of the party was set up inside. However, Annie realized that we threw some treats in the outdoor area and she got to enjoy them all by herself. Burrito grabbed one of the coconuts and clung to it for dear life. When he first came to the sanctuary, he didn’t know how to crack one open, but he must have learned from Missy because today he cracked open his first!
Many thanks to all who contributed to the party!
Burrito cradling his coconut is hilarious! I am happy to know he got to enjoy it later. What a wonderful Easter for our friends! You could tell with the happy food grunts they enjoyed their party immensely. Thank you to the ladies that made the baskets and treats so the chimps could enjoy their holiday. They were all so excited and bright eyed and best of all, happy!
Rainy and gloomy here in Oregon today also, but watching the party certainly put a smile on my face. What a great job you all did!!
What a party! So dear to see them. Jamie is looking SO big and strong. We are a little worried about Burrito…..or was it just the camera angle? He looks thinner and it looks like hollows in his cheeks. ALso the white beard…I don’t remember seeing that before. Hope he is OK and we are seeing things that are not really there.
It was a very fun time seeing them all enjoy their treats. Margaret and Karen I don’t think you need to worry about Burrito. He was running back and forth banging the coconut on the bars. After the initial forage each one settled down with bits and pieces of the treasure to enjoy the afternoon. Lots of low voices as they munched. My last view was of Negra playing with one of the baskets, waving it slowly in the air with her back feet. I was so glad to be back and a part of the volunteer crew.
Thanks JB for the great video.
Thanks, Jeanie. So glad you were there. We can’t wait to get back over the pass again and cook for our friends.
I had to watch this video several times just to see Burrito with his coconut again. So sweet. Glad a good time seemed to be had by all.
How FUN is THAT?!?! I love it! What a great celebration the chimps were having 🙂 They all look so happy ~ nothing better than seeing the chimps healthy, happy and having fun. Thank you so much for the video and the post, J.B. I’ll probably watch this one several times and come back to it again at a later date. Hope all the human primates had a happy Easter, too 🙂
Margaret and Karen, I know what you mean. The chimps had so much Easter food that we didn’t have to cook for them. So I went ahead and cooked their dinner for today. I had brought over Couscous, shallots, and sundried tomatoes to cook up. I just couldn’t not cook for them!
I like the free and easy way that the chimps come to the edge of their cage to interact with the humans. I love all the food grunts! And Burrito — that gray muzzle may give him the appearance of being older, but the look on his face is pure childish delight. 🙂
I’ve noticed that hollow-cheek look in some photos of Burrito too – it is just a camera angle. He’s doing great 🙂
Was that Jody coming up to the caging with her armload of goodies? Priceless how she showed off her loot with such a huge smile! I LOL’d.
