Jamie likes using tools so much she invents reasons to use them. Here Jamie is trying to groom Diana’s broken fingernail with a plastic wrench:

I’m curious – first Jamie had a nail file (and was still biting her nails) and then she’s trying to fix someone else’s nails. Do you know if she’s ever seen humans taking care of their hands or do chimps naturally include their nails as part of a grooming routine?
JB says
Sara – I would guess that Jamie has seen people filing their nails, though I can’t be certain. She spent the first nine years of her life in entertainment, so she probably lived with her trainer when she was young and spent a lot of time around people. Most chimps do groom their fingernails in one way or another. They might tear or bite them when they get too long, or just keep them clean and let them grow. Some even have a nervous habit of biting them, just like me!
