Thanks for the heads-up! I just switched on the TV and surfed over to ABC, and heard them say that the CSNW story will be “coming up next”. 🙂

OMG! I just saw the nightly news! I often wondered what happened to the chimps in research labs. Wow! You are doing such a great job. Are there any records for the 5 and 4 babies taken from the mothers? I know they wouldn’t know them, but i can only hope. We do pot belly pig rescues. We have 4 and are on the verge of losing our home of 26 years. My only concern was to find a home for my pigs and I have. I’m waiting to see what happens with our home. But let me tell you how I am blown away. It’s concerned people like you that makes the world a better place. Thank-you, Mary

I just saw the story on ABC, didn’t know you even existed and love that you have saved these chimps. How sad that all of their babies have gone for research purposes. I will post you on my facebook site. Thanks for you.

I saw the piece on ABC and it warmed my heart. What touched me was your dedication and giving of all you had to these wonderful beings. You are truly a magnificent human. I would love to see your place and wish you the best in all you do.
    Thanks for your dedication.

YAY!!!! I just watched the story! I have to say my favorite part was Foxie carrying all her trolls! Thankfully I Tivo’ed it so now anyone that comes over is going to have to watch that newcast. And, look and all the people that posted because they saw the story!!! Go Cle Clem 7!

Welcome to all the folks who found CSNW through the ABC coverage. Those of us who have known about the Cle ELum Seven and who have followed these wonderful beings through this blog have been truly blessed. Great to have more folks connecting with the sanctuary.

I have been too busy to visit, this is so exciting that you are going to be on ABC. I missed it, but I will catch it some where.
The number of people that are unaware of chimpanzees being in research is huge.

Like Wanda, I also missed the news tonight. We were in Cle Elum getting our trailer put away for the winter. I hope that they repeat the report. It is good to see new people on the blog.

    Love love LOVE this story!!!!

Just how many troll dolls was Foxie holding? At least four, I think!

Wow, what a great opportunity to get the word out to a wider audience about the FANTASTIC work you guys are doing! Pictures speak louder than words and there’s nothing like seeing you and the chimps on TV to tell your story!

And I’m already using the link to the news video to help drum up more support for the Seattle fund raiser 🙂

This is SO EXCITING!!! 🙂 How wonderful that so many more people are discovering the stories of our beautiful Cle Elum 7!! Keith & Diana ~ you guys looked great!! 🙂 I LOVED it!! Although I wanted it to keep going & tell more, but I know that isn’t realistic….they have to keep it short for their news segment. 🙂 Maybe they will come back again and do an update sometime….hopefully!!

The news segment was absolutely wonderful! The exposure for the sanctuary was great. I was so happy to see all the comments here and friends online asking me if I saw it. The word is definitely getting out. Nothing but good things coming for the Cle Elum 7. Thank you all again for saving and loving these wonderful chimps!

hooray & congratulations CSNW! like mentioned above, wish the segment was longer – loved seeing Jody Missy Annie Jamie Foxie & Burrito! (Negra?) and so great to see more people aware & coming to this site! hooray! but can’t forget about all those who are still stuck in those labs .. the brief footage of that very young chimpanzee alone in his cage holding onto his ball for dear life, then rocking back & forth in the corner of his cage was completely heartbreaking & unforgettable — we all got to urge the government, the NIH, to stop testing & doing research on these super intelligent, very complex beautiful beings–ANIMAL TESTS DO NOT ACCURATELY PREDICT NOR CURE PROBLEMS IN HUMANS, IT HAS ONLY DELAYED AND OBSTRUCTED MEDICAL PROGRESS WHILE MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF HUMAN & NON-HUMAN BEINGS HAVE SUFFERED & DIED

  17. Audrey says

    October 16, 2008 at 12:26 pm

Does anyone know where they got the footage of the sweet little one in the research cage?……Where that was taken & when?

  18. Annie says

    October 16, 2008 at 12:29 pm

Saw the story last night and it made me cry. What a wonderful thing you are doing. Blessings to all of you and to the chimps.

  19. Diana says

    October 16, 2008 at 12:46 pm

The footage was from the PETA undercover investigation of Buckshire in the mid 90s. The young chimpanzee was named Bucky.

  20. Audrey says

    October 16, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Thank you, Diana. Bucky is just so sweet…..it is so, so sad to see him like that in that tiny cage. I’m afraid to ask, but do you know what happened to him? Seeing that footage shows the reality of how our Cle Elum 7 actually lived when they were at Buckshire…..no sunlight, no enrichments, no room to play….subjected to knockdowns & biopsies & other medical testing….having babies taken from them. It breaks my heart…and also makes me feel even more grateful to all of you for making their move to CSNW happen! I am so happy that they have their new, safe home!! Once again, thank you SO SO MUCH for all that you do!!

  21. Diana says

    October 16, 2008 at 4:40 pm

There is no confirmation, as far as I know, about what happened to Bucky. PETA believes his name was changed to Walter and he is living at a horrible roadside zoo in Texas. You can read more about Bucky and PETA’s undercover investigation of the roadside zoo here: http://www.peta.org/feat/awr/primates.asp

We can all be thankful that the fate of the Cle Elum Seven, who we all love so much, was better than Bucky’s. His image on that undercover film is so haunting. By showing the more hopeful ‘life after research’ and the amazing, intelligent, diverse, and resilient personalities of the Cle Elum Seven, I hope we can make that life come true for many more chimpanzees like Bucky still in need.

Congratulations on your news coverage! It is a great piece.

The chimp in the last few seconds of the piece – showing his/her teeth and gums – is that one of their happy faces? Now that I know the face we see on tv, greeting cards is one of fright, I am trying to figure out what are the “happy” faces.

Thank you for all the good work you are doing – it shows – as we “fans” can all see in the before and after pics.

I’m sure the CE 7 appreciate you all – I do too.

Just noticed I didn’t answer your question, Mary Merritt, about the chimpanzees’ babies. We have some records for some of their babies, and our blog readers have found two! Annie’s son Virgil and Foxie’s daughter Angie. Both are at Save the Chimps Sanctuary in Florida. We hope to do a thorough family tree and trace offspring and parents at some point soon.

Pat – the face you saw at the end of the video clip on ABC was Foxie. This face, with her top lip flipped up, is pretty unique to Foxie, and we haven’t figured out what, if anything specific, it means.

I am so glad that ABC News helped open some people’s eyes to the horrible conditions these amazing beings have suffered. I have long been a supporter of Save the Chimps, and I’m glad to know that you and your organization are doing something for these otherwise forgotten creatures.

Can you do anything for Bucky in the roadside zoo?

  25. dee says

    October 17, 2008 at 10:02 am

thanks Diana for pointing out that awful roadside zoo .. I’ve been worried & pining for a chimpanzee there named Edith, as you can see that disturbing picture of her .. I’ll write more about it over at the forum … I knew there was a Walter there but didn’t make the connection that that was Bucky .. thanks

  26. Audrey says

    October 17, 2008 at 11:20 am

Dee ~ I look forward to reading your post in the forum about Edith & Walter (Bucky). I watched the PETA video…..what can we do to help?

  27. dee says

    October 17, 2008 at 3:14 pm

hey thanks Audrey .. . Chubbs too!
sorta odd – before writing about it on the forum, I went to reference the info on the internet that I know I had read about this, but I couldn’t find them (?? very interesting that it’s not there anymore).. but I know that I have notes & printed some stuff out about it at the time – but it’s all at home (at work right now) and won’t have computer access so I’ll look through what I got and write about it Monday..
    have a great weekend everybody!

  28. Candace says

    October 18, 2008 at 3:37 pm

I know why Foxie flipped up her upper lip, because she’s happy and feels relaxed enough to do it.

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe how much I’ve been missing! First of all – CONGRATULATIONS ON THE ABC STORY!!!! I did get to see it and call my friends and family so they could watch it, too – it was WONDERFUL!

Second – A WARM WELCOME to all the new folks who’ve found CSNW!! Thank you so much for caring about the chimps – please take a look at the Forum we have linked to from the home page – we’d love to have you join our conversations there!

Last. but certainly not least – please help us get the remaining chimps out of labs – whether you have 5 minutes, 20 minutes, a few hours – there are things that can be VERY, VERY helpful – one thing could be to check out the New England Anti-Vivisection Society’s R&R Program – or simply go to our forum and talk with us (Cle Elum Chimp Chatters – or CCC’s) we talk on the forum regularly 🙂

Big “hi” to all my CCC friends – have missed talking with you the past few days (I’m on a family mini-vacation at Cannon Beach)
