Negra

July 23, 2008 by Sarah

Someone asked recently about Negra and how she’s doing. She’s still our queen! Here’s a new picture of her with one of her favorite foods: lettuce.

Hi Sarah – I really love these close-up photo’s where their expressions are so evident. Just look at Negra, she’s so SWEET. These images really evoke emotion……thank you so much for all you guys do to help those of us who are “addicted” to get our “fix” every day 😉

    oh, thank you; she’s adorable!

next question: will there be baby chimps some day since so many of these chimps had their babies taken away from them?

these chimps look happy and engrossed in their new environment. Bravo to all of you!

Is Negra’s face getting darker. She looks pale in the pic on the front page of your website, but now it looks like she’s getting a little “sun.”

Thank you so much for what you are doing for these beautiful chimpanzee’s. Also thank you for letting us get to know them through stories, pictures, and videos.
I have come to love all the chimps that have been rescued, and mourn for those you haven’t.
    Sincerely, Wanda Perry

I think Negra’s face is getting darker. Looking at the video of her from the first week they were here compared to this photo – her face definitely looks darker. We’re also starting to notice some more muscle development in the chimpanzees and hair growing back in. Particularly good news is that Jamie’s belly, which she used to pluck bare, now has hair. She is such as active person, it’s easy to see why she resorted to plucking hair when she had very little else to do. Now she has so many activities to keep her busy! Hopefully the hair plucking will remain a habit of her past – sometimes those behaviors return even in new settings. We’ll keep you all updated.

The thing that strikes me in looking at the new photos of Negra and the one on your home page is her eyes. She did not have a life light in that first one. Now her eyes are warm and happy. It is a great pleasure to see all the pictures and read about the daily antics. What a wonderful tribute they give to you all in their pure joy of living these days.

I’ve been asked by people who read my shirt every time I wear it ” Are we really 98.76% chimp?”
