Frozen Watermelon Day

July 18, 2008 by Diana

Meals for the chimpanzees are served in the front rooms, but we figure it’s important to have changes and surprises amidst the routine, so we set up a frozen watermelon forage in the playroom after breakfast this morning. Sarah had frozen some watermelon with a long tube sticking out and tied it to the caging of the barn doors. When Burrito discovered it, he produced some of the most unreal food squeaks I’ve ever heard!Β Check out the video below. Oh, and speaking of surprises, we’re really excited about Sunday’s party for the chimps!! Thank you to everyone who got toys for the chimpanzees, and needed items for the humans to take care of them, off of the Target and Amazon wish lists.

I am absolutely IN LOVE with all seven of these wonderful chimpanzees!! I check your blog several times every day to see what they are up to. They are just amazing with the things they come up with, and they are sooooo cute!!! I have ordered some coffee mugs and a tote from the CSNW store & am anxiously awaiting their arrival. I want to let everyone know about the sanctuary….I have e-mailed your website to all of my friends. Thank you so much for all you are doing for these precious chimps….you all deserve so much praise and credit for your work!! With much love & thanks, Audrey P.S.-are you still accepting photos for the picture books? P.S.S. -Thank you, Shelly, for telling me about the Cle Ellum Seven! πŸ™‚

Thank you, Audrey! (and Shelly for telling Audrey about the Cle Elum Seven). Yes, please do send in your photos. I’m viewing the photo album as an ongoing project – as the chimpanzees have new friends, we’ll add to the album. I will show the chimps the initial album this Sunday, and then periodically when we have new photos to share. So, do continue to send your photos!

It is so great that you constantly think of fun, interesting and new things for these people to enjoy. I wonder how long their memories are and if they think of how they used to live and the differences in the way they live now.

Shelly suggested a chimp party to make chimp treats. Are you in Seattle, Shelly? Count us in. We would do everything we could to be there!

I keep watching this video over and over again! It’s so much fun to watch Burrito’s reaction to the frozen watermelon…..he is clearly thrilled with his discovery!!! And I just LOVE those “food sqeaks”!!
