Foxie

Born 1976 in captivity. Actual birthday: August 8th

Foxie is very curious and sometimes suspicious of new things. She can take a little while to warm up to new people, but is playful once she has decided to trust a person. She seems to have quite an imagination and often plays private games with her dolls.

Prior to her sanctuary life, Foxie was used in hepatitis vaccine research and as a breeder for the biomedical research industry. She was born at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research. Our records say her mother’s name was Winny and her Father was Brian. Foxie’s mother had eleven children in the laboratory (at least two were stillborn) and she died at the Alamogordo Primate Facility (APF) laboratory in 2013.

Foxie herself had four babies during her years in biomedical research. All of her children were taken away from her when they were very young – sometimes just days old. According to our records, she had a set of twin boys – Steve, who died at an unknown age, and David who died at APF in 2015. Foxie’s daughter Angie (the 1st) lives at Save the Chimps sanctuary in Florida and her daughter Kelsey was finally released to Chimp Haven sanctuary in 2018.

Much to our surprise, Foxie adopted a doll to care for at the sanctuary within a month of her arrival – a Troll doll with bright pink hair. Foxie now has hundreds of dolls thanks to her supporters and has expanded her interests to Dora the Explorer and Strawberry Shortcake dolls.

Become Foxie’s Pal today! Foxie currently has 13 Pals!
