Burrito on the hill

October 26, 2011 by Jackie

Like Foxie, Burrito hasn’t spent much time out on the hill since the first few days out. Although we don’t want to push anyone out there and want the chimps to go out in their own time and on their own terms, I found myself on a mission the last few days to encourage him out there… and what did the trick? Lettuce? no. Peanuts? nope. Dried Apples? nope, try again. It was chow (biscuits that are often given to captive primates to ensure proper nutrients. It’s a lot like dog food, but for whatever reason, the chimps really like it). Mr. B is pretty predictable sometimes.

Monkey biscuits actually smell kind of tasty. I have never actually eaten them, but the Japanese macaques I feed them to seen to like them quite a bit. They stick them in their cheek pouches for a late afternoon/evening snack. Whatever works to get these apes to enjoy their more natural habitat is great. Keep up the great work out there! <3

He looks pretty “pilo”, so glad he ventured out again.

Yay, Jackie, yay!!!! You and Burrito did it!!! So glad your clever idea worked and B is out there again. I love, love, love that you guys put sincere thought, care and respect into what may comfort and encourage each chimp in their individual process. Thank you for that. 🙂

Burrito is so gorgeous….he already knows the Hill is his turf- he is the
young, Big Boy of the group- right?
Love his sweet face- he looks so relaxed -like he knows the hill is there when he wants to go there.
Hope the weather stays good for them to continue to go out.

That’s super Jackie and Mr. B!!!!! Way to go!!! Good thinking on your part Jackie. As I recall it took food to get Burrito out in the greenhouse, too! Love the pictures.
