Moments We Come Upon

December 30, 2025 by Kelsi

Instead of writing about the day, I thought I’d share it visually. These photos offer a glimpse of what we might come upon as we are passing by the chimpanzees on a typical day.

Mave eating lunch:

Sweet Mavey nesting:

Cy playing a game of chase at lunch:

Rayne nesting in a hammock:

Little Honey B:

Honey B in her beloved front rooms:

Spending time with Terry:

Lucky enjoying her lunch in the green house:

We can’t forget, teeny tiny Foxie. This lighting for some reason is my favorite. Just the silhouette of Foxie and her tiny troll doll.

Wow, that super close up of Terry is something, Kelsi! Almost as though his mouth were carved out of granite!
I love to see them using the hammocks that you so painstakingly installed–glad Rayne enjoys them.
And I also love that silhouette of Tiny. It says so much!

      Yes!!! MAVE.
So happy to see her; doesn’t she look adorable when she is asleep.
      I love that woman.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful images of some of the people we are privileged to follow from afar. At the end of what has been a difficult year for many of us, the beauty of the Cascade Mountain Chimpeople is a gift to look upon.

You’re so right as always, Tobin. The chimpy people and bovines keep me going throughout the year….in good or bad times. What an honour to be part of their family!

      Indeed!
And we won’t be done needing them for a while..

That photo of Foxie with her doll in silhouette is just breathtaking. What a beautiful shot.
I notice there’s quite the mess below where Honey B was lounging. Just how she likes it, I presume!
Also, I want to wish a big happy 50th birthday to Rayne’s half sister, Tatu!

I agree, the photo’s are lovely. Honey B needs to be given a broom so that she can sweep up that mess beneath her.
Speaking of photos, I received my new calendar today and I think the photo’s of the chimps are beautiful.

Please reunite Mave and Dora. BFF shouldn’t be separated.

I understand that Dora has regular “playdates”
with Mave and Honey B. ( and Willy B. but I don’t know that he is that big of a friend..).
So they do not have to huncker…

Wait. One question. Regarding Honey B’s photos: That’s not a hose reel positioned directly outside a window where Honey B likes to sit on the firehose?! Ha ha ha! I swear I can see her wheels spinning, cranking up the mischievous and crafty side of her brain. Somehow, someway, someday soon, she’s gonna gain access to that hose reel!

Thanks, Kelsi, for all these photos. Love them all! Foxie in silhouette is too precious. There is nothing “typical” about your day. To be able to see everyone, each day, being themselves because they can… you are so fortunate. I know you work extremely hard, but your photos prove everything thing you do creates THIS.

my thoughts exactly, fr9m that vantage point Honey B can keep an eye on both the hose and the security camera footage…

Thanks for the lovely photos, Kelsi. I think they depict a quietness which I’m sure is a rarity at the sanctuary. They also indicate the wonderful idea of freedom these chimps now have. They are free to move about, eat, rest, play or just quietly sit. For that I am happy that the CSNW sanctuary exists.
