More Young’s Hill Progress

July 6, 2011 by Sarah

The welders (and JB) have been hard at work yesterday and today putting in the raceway and gate to Young’s Hill. It feels just a little more real now that all the steel is coming together! The red steel in the first picture below is the tunnel that will connect the current outdoor area (greenhouse) to Young’s Hill. The second picture is the vehicle access gate. We’re so excited!

I agree with you Sarah, the steel does make it that much closer to their release onto Young’s Hill. I bet all this activity has the chimps engrossed. I know Jamie can’t wait to examine all the work being done.

Is the gate automatic or manual? Is the tunnel entrance at Negra’s corner?

Thanks JB and fellow welders, job well-done.

Hi Candy – The gate can be operated manually if needed, but it is hooked up to an electro-hydraulic cylinder which will be powered by a solar-charged battery. We prefer power-operated doors whenever they are practical because we feel they are generally safer and more convenient for the operator.

And yes, the tunnel is right by Negra’s corner.
