The Great Potato Pilferer

July 13, 2023 by Anna

This afternoon we put out a lunch forage and everyone quietly and calmly collected their own meals. Missy gathered a large cache of potatoes and headed bipedally back to the greenhouse.

Here’s a poor photo of her forage efforts so you get the idea:

Once she made it back to the greenhouse, she sat down to leisurely finish her lunch:

Meanwhile, Negra went directly to “Negra’s Cabin” and sat down to collect the primate chow we had scattered in there before heading back inside with a big mouthful:

Look out Missy! The Queen charges an income tax.

Missy is a loyal subject and knows when to step aside, no drama necessary. Negra knows an easy “forage” opportunity when she sees one.

Her Royal Highness and her potato plunder:

I was going to say, “That’s a lot of taters, Missy!”…..and then Neggie swooped in. This is where I think Neggie is smarter than a lot of people think. Less effort, still gets food.

Missy was probably singing “one potato, two potato three potato, four and MORE, until Negra swooped in and took what she wanted. Old ladies rule!

The Queen has mastered the fine art of potato politics…

I’m so glad that Neggie feels safe enough to take control when she wants to — blankets, potatoes, whatever! Talk about a role model for assertiveness training and letting one’s PRESENCE have an impact on others! Now what I also wonder is how a raw potato actually tastes. We eat apples raw, all that sweetness, crunchiness and juice. I have to try raw potato & see what I think of it. Maybe she could give me some lessons on just how to eat it so it tastes best! Gotta love their individuality…

Thanks for your input, Linda. Maybe I’ll have to try several varieties to see if any are tolerable. Sweet potato? I’ll see…I don’t plan on it being a new food group for me, just an experiment.

Missy looks so pleased with her haul as she walks it in bipedally, I cant help but feel sorry for her that she didnt get to eat it! But dear Neggie has the wisdom of years 🙂

Well of course Missy is carbo loading. Don’t all athletes load up on carbs for an energy source before they exercise and run?!

Anna, your comment “The queen charges an income tax” gave me a good chuckle. Missy, being a “chimps chimp” as you always say, knows how to play politics. Well done! And I think Negra’s desire to carbo load is a little different. Something tells me Negra enjoys the “comfort” she gets from such food.
