Please Excuse the Interruption

April 24, 2022 by Chad de Bree

To our supportive blog followers and lovers of the sanctuary:

We are always ever so grateful for all the love and support you have given us throughout the years and want to thank you for following along and interacting with us through the blog. As you all know, we have been in the process of integrating Cy’s group and Willy B’s group over the past several months. Our friend and colleague, Jen Feuerstein, will return tomorrow to help us with progressing even further into the integration process this week. During this time, we are going to be extremely busy monitoring the process as the chimpanzees come together and work on their relationships with one another. We will still be posting the daily blog, but please forgive us if at times this week it seems it is abbreviated or posted a little later in the day. We hope you understand. We will be back on a regular schedule soon!

As we prepare for the week ahead, please enjoy these photos from today!

GREAT photos, Chad! So excited to getting closer to integration, and certainly understanding if blog schedule runs off. But if I may. I’d like to remind you that the blog came late (or not at all?) when Burrito was so badly injured during integration attempts. There was another late post some time after that, and another follower expressed concern that the reason may have been another injury. So I insert that by suggesting that, of course, you’ll need time on a different schedule this week and to just speak in advance for our potential concerns.

Hoping for a lot of success and the least amount of stress. Good luck!

So fortunate to have Jen guiding the process. I imagine there are very few people on the planet with her experience. Take all the time you need. You have all of our best wishes for a peaceful integration, in whatever form that may take.

Sounds as if there will be some serious “play dates” going on with Jen Feuerstein in the chimp house. Good luck to everyone. With your agenda packed full this week please don’t worry about the blog, I am happy to keep coming back to this post to look over these photos again and again. I could never get tired of these faces! Know I will be sending positive integration vibes your way.

(Seriously, I can’t stop looking at these photos of Terry. What a face! And Rayne too! And, well, ….all of them. Yep, I’m good for the week.)

Did someone forget to brush Cy’s hair this morning? He looks so adorable in those pictures. Don’t worry about the blogs…I’m sure all of us are anxious to see if the two groups can be integrated so we know you will be busy.

No worries Chad, us blog-people understand, and I agree with Kathleen that these photo’s will last us for the week….
Maybe a little update on how it is going would be nice; just a thumb up or smiley face is enough !!, but use all your energy to guide the process of intergration.
Wishing you all peace and trust in the process and know that we are all rooting for a happy outcome.

Oh no! I just noticed, in the second photo of studious Cy there is a page with an illustrated COW he will soon be flipping to. I hope Cy doesn’t react the same way to an illustrated picture of a cow as he did when he saw a photo of Nutmeg in his special custom made book! 😀

Just wondering…what is the benefit to the chimpanzees of becoming integrated groups?

I think it’s social. More friends, more opportunities for relationships. Right now, Willy B is the only dude on his side, as Burrito is on his. Something in thecway JB phrased his description of Willy B’s excitement about seeing “the guys” makes me think that it’s sort of like humans…guys just need “guy time” sometimes. I could be reading into it, though.
I’ve often wondered, since Burrito is about 8-9 years younger than the ladies on his side, what would happen if he outlasts them. He could spend a few years all alone, which would be awful for him.

Why is there such a need to integrate the groups when there have been unfortunate incidents between some members. Things seem to be working smoothly now, so why upset the cart?

    • Linda C says

      April 26, 2022 at 1:49 pm

The group of 3 is small, so by integrating them with the 6 (some of them ready know each other), there are increased opportunities for friendships, seratonin, etc.

The previous conflicts were between the 3 and the original 7. They have ready said there won’t be any further attempts to integrate the 7 with other groups.
