A lot is changing around here! It is exciting change, but still an adjustment. We are learning that flexibility is key while the humans and chimps are learning a new routine. Even though it is just 3 new chimps, a lot of work has gone into this. We are getting to know 3 new chimps, while still devoting ourselves to the 7. We have new checks to do, spaces to organize, and old & new volunteers to train. With the new chimps comes a need for more fresh produce and toys. The 7 have been wonderful through this process with the new chimps arriving. They have been curious and as patient as they can be. Though the suspense of hoping to meet their new neighbors has brought some tension to the group. Overall, everyone is adjusting well and the 7 have been able to keep most of their days normal.

Kelsi, I found I did have a skip it like the link I emailed to you….no small pieces, plastic ankle ring, cord covered in vinyl, ball made of interlocking plastic links. If you say it’s approved, it’s theirs- otherwise, it’s going to be donated to some orphans. It’s still in the packaging..:)
I hope that Burrito’s curiosity about his new neighbors is a good portent. I so hope that he and Willy can become buds, and that Honey B and Mave will find him as charming as the rest of us do.
I can only imagine all the new (extra!) work involved for everyone, chimps included. All that peeking into the Howdy door alone takes so much time. I am still curious about how Neggie is handling the arrival of the CA chimps. From your photo, looks like business as usual but I am very curious about how curious she is. Love these photos, thanks!
I have the utmost respect for all of the staff, administration, volunteers ‘S patience in doing the diligence of observing how they are reacting to each other at a distance. This is a mix not to be taken lightly and CLEARLY you are all doing “top drawer” care and planning to give all of them the best chance at a good long-term experience.. even if in the short term there is a lot of noise, stress, and learning curves… for everyone.. including those of us to simply watch with bated breath to see how this all goes… Hoping and visualizing new friends and happy dynamics as things progress!
The “triplets” are fabulous chimps and this is going to work out. It’s normal to feel apprehensive and overwhelmed with the additional work in this introductory period. When will the introduction happen? Are the triplets going out on the hill alone first? The entire CSNW human world will be holding our collective breathes! We can’t wait for it to Happy. The excitement is akin to the moon landing! Kudos to you all for working so hard on behalf of these 10 lucky chimps!
