TEAPSPA Day of Action

September 10, 2019 by Diana

In addition to being Annie’s birthday, we have something important for everyone to do for Take Action Tuesday.

We are one of several groups invited by Animal Defenders International (ADI) to support TEAPSPA (the Traveling Exotic Animal and Public Safety Protection Act) to ban traveling wild animal acts nationwide.

Read this post about chimpanzees in circuses and why we support the end of the use all wild and exotic animals in these acts.

This bill was introduced in the House as HR2863 and companion bill S2121 in the Senate.

Studies on the use of wild animals in traveling acts show that circuses cannot meet the physical or behavioral needs of wild animals. Animals are confined in small spaces, deprived of physical and social needs, and spend excessive time shut in trailers and train cars. These animals often demonstrate abnormal behaviors – rocking, swaying, and pacing – indicating they are in distress and not coping with their environment. Video evidence shows these animals are forced to perform tricks through physical violence, fear, and intimidation.

Use this link: bit.ly/SupportTEAPSPA to find your legislators, send them an email, Facebook post and tweet asking them to support TEAPSPA. Direct calls to your legislators are very effective and ADI has lots of talking points here. If you can schedule a meeting, you can let ADI know and they will send you a pack with even more information.

If you are on Facebook, let others know you’re supporting TEAPSPA by uploading a Facebook frame to your profile pic! Simply click this link and type “Animal Defenders International” into the search box, click on the “Support TEAPSPA” frame, then click “use as profile pic.”

Thanks for standing up for the animals!

ADI is an amazing animal rescue group. I’ve been following them for years and never cease to be amazed at what they accomplish on behalf of abused animals. They put themselves in danger and won’t take “No” for an answer when removing an animal from evil people. But they get govenments to help change laws that protect animals, so it is even more of an accomplishment than just removing animals from owners and countries.

I’m with Elaine! ADI is amazing. I support TEAPSPA 100 percent. I have gone “undercover” for them in the past to photograph local visiting circuses in my area (no chimpanzee acts but very disturbing elephant mistreatment). Along with contacting your legislators, promise to never support a traveling circus or “roadside zoo” attraction. By financially not supporting these venues you help to put them out of business. And when the traveling does come to your community, write an op-Ed piece for your local paper expressing the poor, unnatural treatment these animals suffer through for our entertainment. ADI’s Webster has lots of great information to help you.

And a BIG happy birthday to one of the most beautiful chimpanzee girls I have ever known. Happy days dear Annie!!

    Thank you Diana,
Its so important to speak up for those who can’t, and hold people accountable for their actions.
even though the world is changing on what it thinks is OK in entertainment, people need to be reminded that Animals are not ours to do with what we please, they are their own
beings, with their own agenda, we should be sharing the planet with them, instead
of taking endangered of extinction animals and making them perform for us,
or wearing them, eating them, shooting them in horrible big game hunting or
poaching them for their ivory, sometimes it feels there is no end to the cruelty towards animals
I hope its not to late, but you and CSN give me some hope for the future 🙂

And on a much lighter note,
    Happy birthday dear sweet Annie
