KOMO 4 News

August 7, 2010 by Diana

Check out last night’s coverage of the Great Ape Protection Act, which included an interview at the sanctuary with Executive Director Sarah Baeckler, an interview with our friend Debra Durham of PCRM, and a goofy Foxie. You can watch online here: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/100170339.html?tab=video

Please leave a comment below the video and thank KOMO for covering the news of Maria Cantwell’s introduction of the Great Ape Protection Act to the Senate.

I read the comments on the website and was flabbergasted by all the negativity for the “stupid monkeys”. What is wrong with people? Obviously there are some serious Maria Cantwell haters out there, but don’t take it out on the chimps because you don’t like the person who is speaking out on behalf of them!

It actually made me pretty upset and it just reminded me of why I thank God every night for CSNW…………………………..

I had just walked back in the living room when the KOMO news started talking about Cle Elum. It was wonderful to see and the shot of the actual cages which were used said everything. I saw them myself when I was a guest of my daughter Julie Harding at the picnic. I am getting to know the antics of each chimp and marvel to see the changes as they occur. What a wonderful thing you are all doing Thank you.

I loved the piece. I read a few comments myself and then chalked it up to people wanting responses to their post. Even negative attention is attention. Getting upset over idiots like that is a waste of my energy. If one of those people spent even 5 minutes in the presence of a chimp they would see that chimps are far from stupid. Those of us who love chimps far outweigh those who think they are “stupid monkeys”.

Theresa – I agree. The open comments attract a lot of people who just want attention, to get a rise out of people, the opportunity to rant about politics, or all three.

Just came home from a weekend away, watched the KOMO spot and read the comments. Thank you so much Theresa and Diana for quickly shifting my thoughts from anger and frustration at some supposedly enlightened primates to realizing what all that negativity really is. What a great spot and good that our letters to Cantwell were read and taken to heart!!!
