This weekend we host our last two summer visits for our supporters for the year. These small visits feature an educational talk from one of our staff members and a chance to view the chimpanzees as they forage for their lunch on Young’s Hill. Today’s lunch forage featured highly prized whole sweet corn (husk and all!).

There’s no better time to eat corn on the cob than in September -or at least Annie thinks so. She “won” the forage today by collecting the most corn and scaling the Escher structure for that final piece!
I did not see foxie with one of her dolls / babies up there on the structure. surely, it was there and we just couldn’t see it, correct?
A friendly, “Hello” from Ohio…I’m curious as to whether you need to pay close attention to who eats what & when to make sure there’s a regular fairly equitable distribution of the food among these magnificent & fascinating Chimps??? … How does this play out on a day to day basis??? I simply LOVE watching them eat & enjoying their favorite foods…

Yes it’s very important to keep track of who eats and how much, that’s why we do a lot of served meals where a caregiver hands out each chimp’s individual portion one at a time so we can make sure that everyone is getting what they need. Forages encourage exercise and natural behavior, but it’s important to limit them to make sure everyone gets their fair share as well.
