Checking out the construction process

August 16, 2018 by Anna

Many of our supporters have asked how the chimps feel about the construction that is happening at the sanctuary this summer. In general, they have been pretty calm and curious. While the chimps have a view of a lot of the action, they can’t always see all the changes that are happening. They did get a good look at the construction process today when we opened the barn doors to do some work in that area.

Here are Foxie and Jody watching from the greenhouse windows (please excuse the sub-par quality phone pictures):

This is their view (also you get to see a dirty playroom):

I’ve been off of Facebook for awhile. Can you update me on when the construction will be complete? Also are the chimps bothered by the noise/construction going on? Foxie and Jody seem to be content and curious but what about our Lady, Negra? Thanks

      Hi Kathleen,

There are 3 different phases of construction planned. Hopefully phase one will be done by the end of the year 🙂
Negra seems pretty unfazed by the whole thing.

HaHa, Dirty Playroom indeed for a neat freak. That room looks spotless for anybody that lives in a room or has pets and/or children. Keeping a room clean and neat is like painting the Golden Gate Bridge….By the time you get to the end, you have to start over again.

I feel just like Foxie and Jody….What are those men doing out there, right outside the barn doors?! What is being built so close to the chimp house? Is this an extension for chimp or human space? I can’t picture where the barn doors are located (dod they over look the garden?), will that beautiful view of Young’s Hill be blocked? Oh I am so excited for you all and I am full of questions. : ). Looking forward to seeing everything unfold.

The barn doors point out towards the tree line just above the highway. They were previously looking at the trailer clinic, before it was moved. I believe this part will extend right into chimp space 🙂
