Jamie and caregiver bonding time

August 15, 2018 by Anna

There is nothing quite like sitting down with your chimpanzee friend for a long afternoon grooming session. Jamie loves to groom her caregivers through the caging using a carefully selected tool, but seems to equally enjoy a relaxing moment where her caregivers return the kindness.

I have a couple of just “curiosity questions”: Do the chimps know their names? Do they respond when called by their own name? Also, have they had these names all their life, or were they given the names when they came to the sanctuary?

The chimps know their names, yes! They sometimes acknowledge us when we call them, but other times choose to completely ignore us 🙂

They all received their names before coming to the sanctuary.

Spa Day with Jamie. Jamie and the caregiver look so totally relaxed. Simply lovely. Thanks for giving Jamie the best care.

To think… to compare such a lovely time, gentle, in the breeze, no stress, no physical brutality… to the terror of a lab cage. Astonishing what the sanctuary has given the chimpanzees, so deserved. Thank you.

Agreed. What a sublime series of images. Jamie looks so beautiful and serene.

She looks like she will fall asleep any second! 🙂 I’m wondering..I’m sure the staff all have their favorite friends among the chimps…well, maybe not…how could you choose? 🙂 Do some of the chimps seem to favor one caregiver over another, as well?
