Born 1975 in captivity. Celebrated birthday: August 23rd
In addition to being used as a breeder, Missy was also used for hepatitis vaccine testing. According to our records, Missy had two babies during her years as a biomedical research subject, both of whom were taken from her. When the Laboratory for Experimental Medicine and Surgery in Primates (LEMSIP) closed, her children were taken in by Wildlife Waystation in California. Wildlife Waystation closed in 2019, and Missy’s daughter Honey B came to Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest! Her son Josh went to the Center for Great Apes sanctuary in Florida along with the others in his group.
Missy has such a playful spirit, it is easy to imagine her playing with her young children. At the sanctuary, she is making up for lost time and spends hours each day running around the outdoor habitat and keeping tabs on all of her chimpanzee friends. She and Annie are best friends and are often seen playing and relaxing together at the sanctuary.
