The Den Mother

June 1, 2017 by Elizabeth

For as long as we’ve known Jody, she’s been incredibly confident and independent. Her happy place is lying alone in a big nest of soft blankets. But somewhere along the way, she has become very invested in taking care of her chimp family. She works hard to make sure the group stays together. This spring, as Negra has ventured farther out onto Young’s Hill than ever before, Jody has periodically gone to the top of the hill to “collect” Negra when she decides it’s time. If Negra isn’t ready to come inside yet, Jody nervously stays with her, hair standing on end. For a group of chimps who never got to know their mothers, they’re lucky to have a mom in Jody.

This is an endearing and very hope filled post! Like us, these individuals are constantly growing and changing. Very beautiful snapshot of just this thing. I love that Jody seeks Negra out when she’s finally exploring her realm. Very telling of who she is becoming!

No wonder Negra can venture out so far, she knows her sister girl Jody is keeping a watchful on her. It is very touching to know Jody has taken on this role. It’s a big job and an important one, even if it does nervously make her hair stand on end. I love you Jody, thank you for keeping an eye on everyone.

Mama Jody. A precious, strong and protective heart. A guardian. A cuddle bunny. A formula for irresistible!

Jody is an amazing lady – she would of been a wonderful mother – I’m thrilled that Negra has such good caring friend in Jody – Im not surprise3d that Jody keeps an eye on elderly Negra – these chimp truly are loving family who definitely care for each others over all well being –
