A person like Foxie

March 15, 2017 by Anna

Foxie wears many hats at the sanctuary. To the other chimpanzees she is friend, peacekeeper, playmate, and protector. She is popular for all the right reasons, and in a lot of ways, she is part of the glue that bonds this tiny community of seven chimps together. We should all be so lucky to have a Foxie in our inner circle.

I feel very fortunate to have Foxie in my life. I have deep admiration and respect for this incredible chimpanzee person and she inspires me all the time. I have no idea how any living creature can be born in a Biomedical Research Institute, live a life of suffering, fear and pain within these government laboratories and survive — not to mention that today, in her sanctuary home, Foxie does pirouettes! Perhaps it took time but Foxie thrived when she was given the freedom of sanctuary. A person like Foxie is a true hero.

I know your website states that Foxie’s son David is currently living at Alamogordo Primate Facility (APF) in New Mexico (he is one of the 300+ NIH chimpanzees who is eligible for retirement). I hope some day David will be allowed the freedom he deserves and he too will be allowed to thrive and live out the remainder of his life in sanctuary. Let’s advocate for all the chimpanzee people who are still waiting for their freedom. Let Foxie be our inspiration. : )

“friend, peacekeeper, playmate, and protector” that’s what makes the best mothers, isn’t it. Lovely Foxie.
