Peanut butter in containers for evening enrichment

March 5, 2017 by Keri

Evening enrichment puzzles are given to all of the chimps at the close of the day, when staff are finishing tasks before leaving for the night. Watch the video to see how Jody and Burrito use tools and their own creativity to get at the peanut butter in the bottom of the containers.

Too bad they don’t have anteater tongues. 😉

It’s fascinating, yet not surprising to see the cognitive abilities of the chimps. I have to say that Jody’s decision to tear open the bottom was awesome! Thanks as always for sharing these precious moments!

that was my thought also. Smart. Easier to just stick your finger in and then lick it than repeatedly putting a thin stick in the top.

My thoughts exactly!! So smart!! And Burrito is not only handsome, but uses an assertive technique to get the pb out with a stick!! Too cute! Hugs to them all!

Looks like it takes 1 part patience, 1 part determination, 1 part skill, and 1 part pure creativity! Jody and Burrito are precious.

Ah yes, I sympathize with them. It’s so frustrating trying to clean out a peanut butter jar. Awesome enrichment activity! It must keep them busy for quite a while. Do any just give up?

Most of the containers are empty by the time we clean the enclosures the following day.

Thanks Keri. They’ve more patience than me!
