Oh, I love her! What care and diligence she shows, and what grace and honor you demonstrate in accepting her grooming. I love the way she moves her mouth as she concentrates on using the tool. She’s really something; you all are. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Pam. I’m glad you appreciate the video (and Jamie!) I talked about those “sympathetic mouth movements” in this post a few years back: https://chimpsnw.org/2014/10/grooming-is-so-cool/

As someone who has had manicures, I would pay anything to have Jamie groom my hands! Nowhere else would I experience such attention to detail. What a wonderful experience. J.B.. I bet you feel like a new person right?! I love you Jamie, you are an amazing person.

Do they ever groom each other’s hands? I have seen Jamie filing her own nails but does she ever try to file the nails of anyone else?

Interesting question. I haven’t seen her filing the nails of anyone else. The chimps do groom each others hands. Jamie actually doesn’t groom with the other chimps as much as you would expect her to considering her position within the group – it’s something we’ve been talking about. Mostly she is more focused on the humans, probably because of her upbringing. Thanks for the question!

So interesting. It is touching to see what a connection these chimps have with their caregivers. It would seem that grooming is done when the chimps are relaxed so they must feel close to you and trust you to do that.
