Most meals at the sanctuary go remarkably smoothly considering we have seven hungry and eager chimpanzees to serve at once. Occasionally, someone swipes someone else’s food or a scuffle breaks out, but more often than not, peace reigns.
That’s not to say that all the chimps always wait patiently, though. In this video, you’ll see some of the ways the chimps get our attention during meals and tell the server to please hurry up – hand clapping (Negra), vigorous head nodding (Missy), and blowing raspberries (Foxie). This video is longer than most of the ones we post, but hopefully it will give you some idea of what it’s like to be present at mealtime at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest.

Thank you for this video! My favorite parts are the imperious hand clapping and of course the raspberries.

I bet I could go out on a limb here and speak for all your followers and say no video from CSNW could be too long!! I’d be happy to pop a big a bowl of popcorn and watch all night long if you’d like to make a feature length film! ; )
This video is perfect. I like the way Keri presents the tray to everyone first. So funny to see everyone get excited. J.B. always states that Burrito is “all about food” and now I really get it. Mr. B is so excited he can’t stop moving and he inhaled those green onions. Foxie’s raspberries were hysterical and made my night. Nothing like putting a little bit of pressure on the server. I always enjoy watching the chimps eat, something so endearing about them munching away peacefully.
This video nourished my soul. : )

This was a pleasure to watch. I love the way each individual has her own way of enjoying the food. Do they know they will get two servings of primate chow and then it is over? They take the two bags and seem to be content that they have eaten it all.
Elizabeth says
Yes, they know the routine pretty well. 🙂

they have a nice home now…

This is a wonderful video. I very much enjoy having a glimpse of the chimpanzees’ daily routine.

In this video they are all well behaved, watching another chimp next to them eat but not taking their food. As you said, I am sure it isn’t always like that but it shows patience and trust that they will get their portion too. I enjoyed watching this so much. Keri does a great job with them – how rewarding to see them so happy.
