Negra Chimpanzee and Alfred Hitchcock in silhouette

Fun with Silhouette

December 15, 2012 by Diana

J.B. took a really good photo of Negra in profile yesterday and turned the photo into a silhouette. Last night I dreamed of creating the image below. I could try to make this an educational or thought-provoking post about evolution and facial features, but the truth is I just like the image. It looks especially good on a black background. Maybe this should be our next t-shirt…

A while back you had a contest for a new logo for your “Eyes on Apes” site. I couldn’t turn my idea into an logo and didn’t enter, but a refrain was stuck on repeat in my head: “Eyes on apes – Eyes on us.” How we relate to/take care of/respect our ape cousins reflects where we really are on the evolutionary scale. The phrase became pretty profound, at least to me. Famous profiles aside, your amazing image beautifully expresses what I couldn’t.

Love this! Sometimes my boyfriend looks and acts like a chimpanzee – must be why I love him 🙂 Seriously, it is amazing how many features and behaviors are similar between chimps and us humans.

Me three! And what about putting (something like) 98% just below their chin? And I LOVE LOVE that Negra’s representin’ <3

I’d buy one! And I agree with Kerri, something in small writing (so as not to detract from the impact of the silhouette).

    Maybe something like
    After 8 million years
    of evolution…

    Image

    Still 98%

I love this image. It is brilliant 🙂
