Jamie checking out the GoPro

September 26, 2012 by Jackie

Seeing the chimps check out the GoPro camera still hasn’t gotten old… especially when it’s the boss who’s checking it out.

Jamie hasn’t inspected the GoPro like many of the other chimps have. It’s unusual because normally, as soon as we add something new to her environment, Jamie immediately does all that she can to try to tear it apart. But the other day, she decided it was time to get down to the bottom of this “strange object we keep putting in the enclosure”.

I love the look in her eyes. The photos and videos never fail to touch my heart. Thanks!

Have you ever shown the chimps the footage of them checking out the GoPro camera? I wonder if they’d put it all together.

What an intense look she has in her eyes. I expected the finger poking the camera lens, but not the tongue! That made me chuckle.

Guess you’ve got to try everything when you’re that curious. 🙂

Are you sure that’s Jamie and not E.T.?

Might not be to long before Jamie is operating the GoPro. Smart girl.

So fun to watch! After all this time that it’s been out there, she just goes and pokes at it then tries to see if it’s edible or retrievable with her tongue. It makes me wonder if she was “saving up” for a momentous investigation or if it just never attracted her attention until just then.

Too funny Carrie, that’s exactly what I thought when I watched the video. “E.T. go home”

How long do you leave the camera out each time? It definitely never gets old watching them. Any chance you’ll ever make it permanent or maybe have live feed? Also, has Negra ever checked it out or been seen on it?

We usually put the camera out in the morning and retrieve it at the end of the day, but it only records for 2 hours at a time. I haven’t seen Negra check it out, though it’s possible she has when the camera was off. Our plan is to someday get a remote for it because it’s hit or miss as to whether or not the chimps are going to approach it (unless we put food around it) and at the end of the day we usually only get a few minutes or so of footage with chimps in view. Therefore, it probably wouldn’t make the best live feed. In addition, because of our remote location, we have a limited internet data plan so a chimp cam just isn’t something we could pull off at this point.
