Jody building a nest

June 11, 2009 by J.B.

We put out fresh straw this morning in the outdoor area and Jody wasted no time building a large, comfortable nest.

Watch Seattle’s King 5 tonight

June 11, 2009 by Diana

On Tuesday, the Cle Elum City Council passed a proclamation to make the Cle Elum Seven honorary citizens of the city. The Daily Record published a story about this, which was picked up by the Associated Press earlier today.

This afternoon Gary Chittim from King 5, who was here the day the chimps arrived, came out today to see how the Cle Elum Seven are doing a year later.

The story will be on the news tonight – tune in!

King 5 also has a new blog called Pet Dish, and Katherine Sather wrote about the proclamation today on that blog.

$7000 goal update

June 10, 2009 by Diana

Just wanted to point out that we’re up to $3995 towards our $7000 anniversary fundraising goal and 12 people (including Negra) now have fundraising pages! Thanks for all who are fundraising – Pam, Tamela, Margaret, Susan, Courtney, Jackie, Sara, Grace, Michelle, Nicole and Jeani (hmmm, all women…)

Check out all of the wonderful and creative pages here and see what some folks are offering in return for donations. There are only 20 days left to raise $3000, so I hope you’ll consider giving to someone’s page today if you haven’t already.

Can you believe the one year anniversary and Negra’s birthday celebration is in three days?!

A day in the life of a coconut

June 8, 2009 by Elizabeth

Burrito carried around his coconut for a couple of hours this morning (rolling it, shaking it, cradling it) before breaking it open to enjoy the goodness. Be sure your speaker volume is up so you can hear his contented grunts and moans.

Chillin’ outside

June 7, 2009 by Elizabeth

It’s a little overcast in Cle Elum today, but that didn’t stop the chimps from spending some time outside. Jamie patrolled the outdoor area wearing her troll scarf, Missy engaged Diana in a game of chase, and Annie had a quiet moment with a mirror.

Never too old to play

June 5, 2009 by J.B.

Every once and a while, Negra musters enough energy to play with us and the other chimpanzees. This morning, she was giving kisses, tickling, and encouraging us to dance. And the other day, I caught her playing with Missy. I want to give Missy the benefit of the doubt, but I’m pretty sure she was tickling Negra just to get her blankets.

Either way, it’s nice to see Negra smiling.
